When Fred Langer's wife, Barbara, was pregnant
with Kristin (1980), Fred was inspired early one morning with the
phrase "you're the sweetest little fetus". Realizing it was the perfect
theme for a humorous song he wrote the lyrics, then set them to an
original bluegrass-style tune.
Fred recorded all the parts himself in his home
recording studio - guitar, bass, drums, mandolin, vocals - all but the
banjo, played by his friend, John Cholewa.
He performed the song on a local noon news program
(Carol Nelson) and sold many copies of the 45 RPM record (remember
those?) as a result. The record sold for many years in the Florida
Hospital gift shop as well and is still used in perinatal classes
there.
